Hi there, I'm Jose. I am a Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice. I entered the dental field in 2006 as a Dental Assistant and shortly after became registered by the state of California. I graduated in 2019 from Cerritos College as a Registered Dental Hygienist and later pursued to obtain a license from the University of the Pacific to practice in alternative settings.
As a Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice, I am able to treat patients outside the dental office such as in Skilled Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living Facilities, Board and Care Homes, Hospitals and Private Homes to those who are homebound.
My mission is to provide access to dental care for those who cannot make it to a traditional dental office and to bridge the gap between the systemic and oral health.

Oral Health Education
Did You Know
The health of our mouths is intricately linked to our overall systemic health. Often referred to as the window to our well-being, health in the mouth can reveal signs of various systemic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, HIV, vitamin deficiencies and much more. By maintaining good oral hygiene, we not only protect our teeth and gums but also support our body's overall health. It's essential to recognize the connection between oral care and systemic conditions for a healthier life.
Over 700 Species
Oral microflora is the diverse community of microorganisms residing in the mouth, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. With over 700 species identified, these microorganisms thrive among each other in a dark, warm, moist environment of the oral cavity. When this balance is disrupted, it can lead to harmful conditions such as cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. Understanding the role of oral microflora is essential for maintaining dental hygiene and promoting a healthy mouth.
Our Diets Plays a Role
The food we consume daily can have a negative impact on our oral environment. Certain foods that contain carbohydrates and starchy foods such as Pastas, Rice, etc. break down and the byproduct causes acid to occur. This acid can break down the enamel, extracting the calcium and phosphates that make up the tooth structure. This demineralization process weakens the enamel making the tooth more susceptible to cavities. Therefore, it is imperative to mechanically remove (Brush & Floss) daily to prevent cavities.
Periodontal Health in Pregnant Women
Hormonal changes is expected during pregnancy which can exacerbate tissue response to biofilm in the mouth. Thus, more bleeding can be seen during a pregnancy term. Having periodontal disease may be correlated to having low-birth-weight babies. Expecting women should visit their dentist/hygienist regularly to receive the latest information on the direct link between pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Oral Caner Screening
Having a routine check up with your hygienist can have a positive impact on your oral health. Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice are trained to examine for oral cancer. We check for lumps and/or bumps and check for abnormalities.
